Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa received the Sinovac coronavirus vaccine in Victoria Falls on Wednesday. Mnangagwa could be seen alongside opposition politicians receiving the vaccine, in a bid to encourage citizens to follow suit. Over 44,000 residents have been vaccinated, according to the country’s health ministry. The Vice President and Minister of Health, Constantino Chiwenga, received his vaccination last week. First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa was also inoculated last week. According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Zimbabwe currently has over 36,000 confirmed cases of the virus and over 1,500 related deaths.
