In December 2020, Kenyan tea farmers saw a long-awaited Tea Bill passed by the national assembly, with the bill also seeing the revival of the Tea Board of Kenya that would help regulate the sector and market the tea to overseas markets, as well as the Tea Research Foundation. However as Covid-19 tightened its grip on the world,   smallholder farmers under the Kenya Tea Development Agency have suffered a slight drop in production and earnings as a result of the high volumes of tea that continue to be delivered to auction from the region, in addition to the global oversupply of tea.
