South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that US President Donald Trump’s so called ‘Deal of the Century’ brought to mind the “horrible history that we as South Africa have gone through,” during his first address as the new African Union (AU) chairperson in at the AU summit in Addis Ababa on Sunday.

“As I listened to the Arab League and as I listened to our colleagues from Palestine it sounds like this plan, one, has not been consulted with all the people that matter, especially the Palestinians, and it sounds like a Bantustan type of construct,” added Ramaphosa.

The African Union Summit kicked off in the Ethiopian capital on Sunday under the theme ‘Silencing the Guns,’ with discussions set to focus on peace and security in the continent, as well as mitigating the effects of climate change.
