Mauritius Faces its largest Ecological Disaster of 2020 as a Japanese ship leaked more than 1,000 tonnes of oil in its pristine waters. The oil is threatening a protected marine park boasting mangrove forests and endangered species in the pristine waters off the coast of Mauritius. Thousands of Mauritians have volunteered to clean their pristine waters as the oil is also threatening the Mauritius tourism industry. This is the worst ecological disaster” for the African island nation and will put unique species under immediate threats. The Mauritius government has requested compensation from the Japanese company for the destruction of its pristine waters.
