Soldiers in Mali have detained the country’s president and prime minister and top officials. The events came amid weeks of the political crisis that protesters taking to the streets to demand the departure of President Keita. The coalition in Mali behind mass protests calling for Keita to resign said his detention by soldiers was “not a military coup but a popular insurrection”.The chairperson of the AU has condemned the arrests of Keita Cisse and other officials. For now, both sides are at the negotiation table to try to resolve this event peacefully.
