How Africans in the Continent are reacting to the George Floyd Murder

The Murder of African American George Floyd by American Police has irreparably destroyed the Image of America for many Africans and Many on the continent are reacting

Africa has not seen the kind of protests over Floyd’s killing that have erupted across the United States, but many Africans on Social media have expressed disgust and dismay, openly wondering why the United Stated of America is so Racists towards African Americans.

The African Union on Friday said the recent death of an unarmed black man in the US amounted to murder.

Commission chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat “strongly condemns the murder of George Floyd that occurred in the United States of America at the hands of law enforcement officers, and wishes to extend his deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” according to an online statement by the African Union.

Moussa Faki further urged the authorities in the United States of America to intensify their efforts to ensure the total elimination of all forms of discrimination based on race or ethnic origin.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have condemned what they call the ruthless murder of George Floyd by racist police officers in the United States (US).

The party said Floyd’s killing represented a deep tradition of racial prejudice and violence against African Americans by law enforcement in America.

The party has also called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to immediately convene a meeting with representatives of the US in South Africa and demanded they recalled the deployment of the military in Minneapolis against protesters.

Zimbabwe summoned its US ambassador on Monday over remarks by a senior American official accusing the southern African country of stirring anti-racism protests over the death of George Floyd, the government said.

Zimbabwe’s foreign ministry spokesman James Manzou said US ambassador Brian Nichols had been called in to explain O’Brien’s remarks.
