Ethiopian Stolen 18th Century Crown Hidden in the Netherlands Finally Returned

The crown, thought to be the last of only 20, was received by the Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, who thanked Sirak Asfaw, the Ethiopian management consultant who found it in 1998, and the government of Netherlands for facilitating its safe return. The precious crown was held onto until last year when Mr. Sirak felt it was safe to hand it to authorities. The crown has depictions of Jesus Christ, God and the Holy Spirit, as well as Jesus’ disciples, and was probably given to a church by the powerful warlord Welde Sellase hundreds of years ago.

The Ethiopian consultant notified the Dutch Police accompanied by an art hunter and it was stored in a secure facility with permission from all authorities. He wants it to stand as a symbol of unity and togetherness for not only Ethiopians but Africans everywhere once returned home.
