World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has announced that COVID-19 is a pandemic. He says the hope is that the announcement will focus governments on the adoption of sufficiently stringent measures immediately. In particular, Tedros says, countries should push ahead in four key areas: prepare and be ready, protect and treat, reduce transmission and innovate and learn.
