The annual Goalkeepers Report has found that the knock-on effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic have reversed global health progress, exposing millions to the risk of deadly disease and poverty. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation report, which tracks United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, says extreme poverty has increased by 7%,and routine vaccine coverage – a good proxy measure for how health systems are functioning – is dropping to levels last seen in the 1990s, meaning progress has been set back by about 25 years in about 25 weeks, the report says.
