Africa has lagged behind the global curve for coronavirus infections and deaths, but in the past few months has seen a significant rise in cases.

Here are the African countries with confirmed coronavirus cases

Currently there are more than 91,514 confirmed cases of coronavirus across the continent.

According to the latest data by the John Hopkins University and Africa Center for Disease Control on COVID-19 in Africa, the breakdown remains fluid as countries confirm cases as and when. There is no virus-free country in Africa as of May 17.

Cases in Africa have remained low compared to other continents.

South Africa still tops the chart of countries with the most cases in Africa with over 17,200 cases. This is followed by Egypt with 13,484 and Morocco with 7,023 confirmed cases, Morocco (7,023), Algeria (7,377), Ghana (6,096) and Nigeria (6,401).

In Nigeria, the number of confirmed cases has increased to 7,401.

However, more cases might be expected from the country as contact tracing has been intensified to get the people who have been in contact with the confirmed cases.

As of 20th of may, a tally of reported cases compiled by John Hopkins University and Africa Center for Disease Control stood at more than 91,514 for all of Africa.

Of these, more than 2906 cases have been fatal.
