Africa has lagged behind the global curve for coronavirus infections and deaths, but in the past few months has seen a significant rise in cases.
Currently there are more than 75,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus across the continent.
According to the latest data by the John Hopkins University and Africa Center for Disease Control on COVID-19 in Africa, the breakdown remains fluid as countries confirm cases as and when. There is no virus-free country in Africa as of May 17.
Cases in Africa have remained low compared to other continents.
South Africa still tops the chart of countries with the most cases in Africa with over 13,000 cases. This is followed by Egypt with 11,228 and Morocco with 6,652 confirmed cases.
In Nigeria, the number of confirmed cases has increased to 5450.
However, more cases might be expected from the country as contact tracing has been intensified to get the people who have been in contact with the confirmed cases.
As of 11th of may, a tally of reported cases compiled by John Hopkins University and Africa Center for Disease Control stood at more than 78,280 for all of Africa.
Of these, more than 2624 cases have been fatal.
